Rams pull out thrilling 1-0 win over Santa Rosa

SAN FRANCISCO – Angelina St. Denis scored while emergency goalkeeper Yvette Moreno came up with a pair of huge saves to help lead the City College of San Francisco women's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over visiting Santa Rosa Junior College on Friday.

St. Denis scored what proved to be the game-winning goal early in the 27th minute. Gabriela Reyes sent a long cross pass from the left side that St. Denis was able to deposit past the Santa Rosa goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.

The Rams' defense played well to keep Santa Rosa under control. But it was Moreno that preserved the win.

Starting keeper Paolina Molina was forced out of the game after 20 minutes and Moreno, primary a field player for the Rams, was up to the challenge as she was thrusted into the contest. She posted four total saves, including two on a Santa Rosa penalty kick in the second half, to help earn CCSF's first shutout of the season.

The Rams hope to build some momentum off the win as they improved to 2-3 overall. They return to action on Tuesday (Sep. 19) for a 3 p.m. game at Lake Tahoe Community College.
