Santa Rosa, Calif. - Freshman Samantha Finnegan netted a goal in the 37th minute to lead the Butte women's soccer team to an early lead, but the Roadrunners were edged by Santa Rosa, 2-1, in the teams' season opener on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Rylee Jellison fed Finnegan to tally the assist, as Finnegan counted three shots on goal in the match. Sophomore Sadie Weber chalked up a pair of shots on goal, as well. 

In the goal, freshman Deana Marshbanks clocked all 90 minutes of the match, earning seven saves.

Butte (0-1-0) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 1, heading to Sacramento City for a 2 p.m. match.
