Bear Cubs Sweep Two-Game Series VS. Cañada College

On Friday the Bear Cubs (3-2) hosted the Cañada College Colts (1-4) in the first game of a home/away two-game series. Kahiau Schenk started on the mound for Santa Rosa, in his first appearance as a Bear Cub since transferring from the University of Hawaii. In his only inning of work, Schenk allowed no hits and struck out one batter. In the bottom half of the first, the Bear Cubs pushed across three runs via a bases-loaded walk by Dalen Tinsley and a two-run single by Zane Bennett. Hekili Robello took over Schenk on the mound in the second inning. The score remained 3-0 in favor of Santa Rosa until Bennett added another RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. The Colts responded back in the top of the fourth with one run to make it a 4-1 ballgame. The Bear Cubs added one run in both the fifth and sixth innings from an RBI single by Mason Cox and a sacrifice fly by Josh Martin, extending the lead 6-1. After giving up his only run of the game in the fourth inning, Robello excelled on the mound, striking out nine over seven innings. In the bottom of the eighth, Tinsley drove in Lombardi on a single, and Quinn Medin crushed a three-run bases-clearing double. Jacob Greiner took over for Robello in the ninth and retired the side to secure a 10-1 victory for the Bear Cubs.

On Saturday, the Bear Cubs traveled to Cañada College, hoping to sweep the Colts. In the top of the first, Santa Rosa tacked on three runs via a two-run error and an RBI HBP Keenan Morris. Luke Dillon got the start on the mound for Santa Rosa but struggled as the Colts scored five runs, taking a 5-3 lead. The Bear Cubs responded with two runs in the second to tie the game at 5-5. Brice Cox took over for Dillon but surrendered a run, giving Cañada a 6-5 lead. In the fourth, the Bear Cubs tied the game when Aidan Lombardi scored on an error. Santa Rosa took the lead with four runs, including a solo home run by Zane Bennett, an RBI single by Gabe Henschel, and a two-run single by Josh Martin. Quinn Medin extended the Bear Cubs lead to 11-6 with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth. Christian Schiavo took over on the mound for Cox in the bottom half of the seventh but allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning. Collin Medeiros relieved Schiavo and surrendered one unearned run in an inning of work. With Santa Rosa hanging onto an 11-10 lead in the top of the ninth, Alex Leopard hit an RBI single, making the score 12-10 in favor of the Bear Cubs. In the bottom of the ninth, Leopard got the save for Santa Rosa as the Bear Cubs swept the Colts in the two-game series.
