Pitching and Offense Help Secure Shutout Victory Over Marin

On Friday, the Bear Cubs (5-3) hosted the College of Marin Mariners (6-5). Both teams entered the game coming off of a one-run loss. Santa Rosa had their ace, Hekili Robello on the mound to face a dangerous Mariners lineup. Robello struck out the side in the opening frame. In the bottom half, the Bear Cubs scored two runs via a bases-loaded walk by Josh Martin and a hit-by-pitch by Mason Cox. In the second, the Mariners had two runners on base, but Robello and the Bear Cub defense kept Marin off the scoreboard. A sacrifice fly by Alex Leopard in the bottom half gave Santa Rosa a 3-0 lead. Robello had another stellar inning by throwing a three up, three down third frame. The Bear Cubs broke the game open in the third inning. Tyler Nordyke and Aidan Lombardi each had an RBI single, then Keenan Morris and Nordyke scored on wild pitches. In his second game back from injury, Jake McCoy hit a sacrifice fly, then Martin crushed a two-run home run, giving Santa Rosa a 10-0 advantage after three innings. In the fourth, Robello recorded his third straight shutdown inning, but the Bear Cubs went scoreless on offense. After another scoreless frame, McCoy hit a two-run for the Bear Cubs, extending the lead to 12-0. Robello ended his day with a scoreless sixth inning. His final line was: 6 innings, 3 hits allowed, no runs, and 6 strikeouts. After the Bear Cubs failed to score in the bottom of the sixth, Collin Medeiros relieved Robello and retired Mariners batters in order. Lombardi led off the seventh inning by hitting a solo home run, increasing the lead to 13-0. After a scoreless eighth inning by both teams, Brice Cox pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Bear Cubs.

Santa Rosa moved to (6-3) with the victory, and Marin dropped to (6-6). Due to the impending storm, the Bear Cubs' next game will be at home on Wednesday, Feb. 21st at 2 PM vs. West Valley.
