Mens Basketball goes 1-1 between tournaments

December 1st

SRJC 81, Mendocino 76

 

The Bear Cubs escaped with an 81-75 victory over Mendocino College in Ukiah after trailing for most of the game. Josh Douglas led all scorers with 29 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field. Mendocino had a one point lead and the ball with 55 seconds remaining when Cobby Wilson stole the inbounds pass and raced down for a lay-up at the other end. Then, after a defensive stop Wilson iced the game with deep 3 pointer with 15 seconds remaining. Montgomery grad Michael Septimo came off the bench and hit two big 3pt shots for the Bear Cubs. 

 

December 3rd

SRJC 69, Marin 70

 

Santa Rosa dropped to 5-3 overall with a one point loss to College of Marin. The Bear Cubs erased an 11 point deficit in the final four minutes of the game. Cobby Wilson hit a deep three pointer and was fouled with 12 seconds remaining. Wilson hit the free throw to tie the game. On the next possession Marin drove the ball down the court and missed a deep jumper. David Niklasson secured a long rebound and appeared to be heading down the court for the final shot but a foul was called under the basket against Siaan Rojas giving Marin Forward Keiland Callum 2 free throws with 5 seconds remaining. He hit the second and of two and deep 3 rimmed out at the buzzer.

 

SRJC had balanced scoring with 6 players scoring in double figures, Josh Dougles and Nicklasson leading the way with 12 points each. Arnold Silva had a solid performance finishing with 10 points and 12 boards on 4 of 4 shooting.
