2013-2014 – Season Highlights

  • 2nd in the Big 8 Conference
  • 2nd at the NorCal Championships
SRJC men's Cross Country kicked off last season with a pair of wins at the Beat the Heat invitational at College of the Redwoods and the Modesto Invitational.  These were the first career wins for Coach David Wellman.  After battling to a tough third place finish on an over-distance meet against four-year competition at the Sonoma State, the team bounced back at the NorCal Preview meet at Folsom to finish third against all the teams in the north.  The team continued to roll through what remained of the regular season with a second place finish at Toro Park in Salinas, followed by a home win at Spring Lake. The season was capped off by a dramatic second place finish at both the Big 8 Conference Championship and the NorCal Championships, completing the turn around from a year ago that saw the men's team finish fifth and 11th respectively.

2014-2015 Season Preview

SRJC Men's Cross Country looks to continue its form next season.  New local talent including Santa Rosa High School's Daniel Mondragan, Maria Carrillo's Carlos Barragan, Cardinal Newman's Anthony Rink will join a number of incoming freshmen that will help to bolster the already strong team of eight returners.
SRJC Cross Country competes in the Big 8 Conference. This is arguably one of the most competitive conferences in the CCCAA system. This year SRJC cross country will compete against a number of community colleges from the north as well as a few four-year universities. We will be striving to continue our success at the conference and regional level and qualify for the state meet.  Our eyes are set on a top ten finish at the state meet.  If you are interested in competition for SRJC men's cross country, please contact coach David Wellman at dwellman@santarosa.edu.

Program History

Santa Rosa Junior College Men's Cross Country is a team on the rise. With a new coaching staff, a new look, and a new crop of local talent, SRJC men's cross country looks to put its mark on CCCAA distance running. Led by coaches David Wellman and Mike Wortman, the Bear Cubs are beginning to return to the quality program it once was.  In 2013, the Bear Cub men finished second at both the Big 8 Conference Championships and the NorCal Championships.
Our number one goal here at SRJC is to develop the student-athletes academically and physically so that they are able to transfer to a four-year university that allows them to flourish as a student and an athlete. We do this giving our athletes the one-on-one attention that young runners need to develop into top tier college athletes. With this individualized focus, our athletes grow to be strong and consistent runners.
