Women's Basketball: Final home games ends with a big victory - 61-38

In their final regular season home game the Bear Cubs (12-13, 6-5) played host to the American River College Beavers (10-13, 5-6) and started the evening by honoring their five sophomores—Taylor Graham, Brittney Rachuy, Amber Hart, Sarah Arteseros, and Alicia Mehtlan. Then the team surprised their coach with a speech given by Taylor Graham and a gift from her players to commemorate her 10 years as head coach at SRJC. In the game Amber Hart won the tip and eventually scored the first field goal of the game. After missing their next four shots, the Bear Cubs made five out of six shots, the fifth a 3-point play by Brooke Santander, to jump out to a 14-5 lead at the 14:46 mark. They missed seven shots before Sarah Arteseros put one in from the baseline with 9:52 on the clock to make the score 16-9. Brooke Santander's 3-pointer and subsequent 3-point play extended their lead to 26-15 with 1:37 in the half. Brooke made another basket and Jenna Dunbar grabbed an offensive rebound and put in the followup shot as the buzzer sounded ending the half with the Bear Cubs in front 30-21.

The Beavers swished a deep 3-pointer 62 seconds into the second half and Jenna Dunbar matched it 82 seconds later. Then the Beavers made a field goal and Sarah Arteseros matched it. Amber Hart hit a field goal their next time down, then Jenna Dunbar hit a 3-pointer to stretch the lead to 40-22 at the 15:26 mark. After four misses the Bear Cubs made seven out of eight shots to make their lead 56-33 with 6:45 to play. The Beavers added a field goal and a 3-pointer during the next 88 seconds to put the score at 56-38. The Bear Cubs missed their next 8 shots, only adding Brooke Santander's two free throws, before Alicia Mehtlan sank their final shot—a 3-pointer with 50 seconds remaining—to go on to win 61-38.

Brooke Santander had not shot well the previous two games, but tonight made 6 out of 8 shots and all six of her free throws to lead the team in scoring with 19 points to tie her season high. Jenna Dunbar made three 3-pointers and registered her fourth double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Amber Hart added 8 points, Alicia Mehtlan 5, Taylor Graham and Sarah Arteseros 4 each, and Vai Thompson, Anne Studdert, and Cayla Chandara 2 each. Niambi Saint Louis and Vai Thompson, who was playing with a tightly taped ankle, each grabbed 6 rebounds. Jenna Dunbar passed for 4 assists and made 4 steals. Taylor Graham also passed for 4 assists.
