2013 Season Highlights

  • 9th at CCCAA State Championships
  • 5th at Northern California Regional

The 2013 Bear Cubs finished the season with a 9-5 dual meet record. We finished fourth in the Coast Conference Tournament. The Bear Cubs performed well finishing 5th in the North Regional qualifying eight guys to the State Meet. Three Bear Cubs medaled to lift the team to a 9th place finish at the CCCAA State Wrestling Championships. Aaron Pen Kruger finished 4th at 133 lbs to earn All America recognition. Our other medalists were Daniel Larman, 6th at 157 lbs, and Isai Guzman was 8th at 174 lbs.

2014-2015 Season Preview

The 2014 Bear Cubs will be young, but will have a couple of key athletes. The upper weights will be led by Isai Guzman, a returning 8th place finisher at the 2013 CCCAA State Championships. He will be joined by a couple of tough freshmen in Taryn Christianson and Oscar Rios. The light weights will feature 2011 state 7th place medalist Richard Morris, 2013 state qualifier Robert Smith, and a couple of tough freshmen in Harris Meglin and Kenny Raymes.

Program History

This year the Bear Cub Wrestling program turns 50 years old, born in 1964.

Coach Fitzpatrick enters his 30th season with a record of 209-162-4. The Bear Cubs have won seven conference titles and finished second nine times. Past CCCAA individual State Champions for SRJC include: Dennis Bardsley (Petaluma HS) the 150 lb. Champion (and MOW) in 1973; Brian Bowles (Laytonville) two time State Champion at 177 lbs in 1994 and 1995 (and MOW); Kyle Griffin (East Clovis and Albany HS's) 2006 undefeated State Champion (and MOW) at 174 lbs; and Andres Torres who won the 125 lb State Championship in 2012. SRJC wrestlers have won 89 state medals and 28 athletes have earned All American honors.
