SRJC Volleyball went 1-1 this week with two 5 set matches. Facing Sierra for the second time this season, the Bear Cubs came up a little short against the Wolverines in the 5th set. Down 17-21 in the first set against them, SRJC pulled off a 25-23 victory before narrowly dropping the following two sets. In the 4th set however, the Bear Cubs rallied together and defeated the Wolverines 25-17. Then with a bit of a rocky start, SRJC ultimately fell to Sierra in the 5th set. Sophomores Becca Steiner and Bryce Gevas attempted to maintain consistency with their combined 36 digs. Freshmen Angelica Chesley and Paula Clarey also contributed a total of 27 kills, and Emily Bonfigli had 36 assists.

The Bear Cubs did not have any time to hang their head after this loss as their rematch versus the Vikings was just around the corner. Santa Rosa defeated Diablo Valley in 5 sets Friday night. Consistency wavered at times, but Coach Ferguson's team goals of commitment and composure stuck with the group throughout the match.

The defense was on point with Freshmen Mimi Fowler and Kayla Cogliano rising to their sophomore mentors Becca Steiner and Bryce Gevas. These four ladies added 42 digs and 9 aces to assist in the team's victory. Emily Bonfigli ran her offense well with 36 assists as well as 8 digs, and 2 aces. Paula Clarey and Angelica Chesley added 25 kills to the mix, and Briana Ortiz returned to the court determined, with a hitting percentage over 300.

SRJC has more work cut out for them in these last 3 conference matches. The team takes on American River College Wednesday at 6:30pm, and Cosumnes River College on Friday at 6:30pm. Both matches are home and Friday is Sophomore Night! Go Bear Cubs!
