Falcons Rally Late to Defeat Bear Cubs, 2-1
Folsom Lake College Falcons showcased resilience and clinical finishing to secure a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs. The Falcons, now 11-7-3 overall and 4-3-3 in conference play, overcame a halftime deficit with two second-half goals, including a dramatic game-winner in the closing moments.
The Bear Cubs struck first in the 32nd minute when defender Raffino Landford capitalized on a loose ball to fire an unassisted goal past Falcons goalkeeper Fernando Garcia. Despite being outshot 3-2 in the first half, Santa Rosa's high pressure and midfield control kept Folsom Lake on their heels.
Garcia, however, was a standout, making eight total saves, including key stops to keep the Falcons within reach.
The momentum shifted in the second half as the Falcons began asserting control. Blake Garcia equalized in the 56th minute, connecting on a pinpoint cross from Erik Villalobos to slot the ball into the corner. It was a moment that reignited Folsom Lake's confidence.
As the clock wound down, the game seemed destined for a draw, but Alejandro Suarez-Amaya had other plans. In the 90th minute, Suarez-Amaya broke free on a counterattack and unleashed a strike that deflected off the post and into the net, sealing the win for the Falcons.
The Falcons' defense, led by Eric Ramirez and Alex Medina, held firm against a late barrage of Santa Rosa attacks. Fernando Garcia's heroics in goal included several point-blank saves that kept the Bear Cubs at bay.
Though both teams finished with identical conference records of 4-3-3, the Falcons' late-game grit and composure proved to be the difference. The win not only boosts Folsom Lake's postseason prospects but also highlights the team's ability to perform under pressure.
Folsom Lake head coach praised his team's resilience: "We've been in tough spots before, but this team never quits. Blake and Alejandro came through when we needed them most, and Fernando was a wall in goal."
The Falcons will aim to build on this momentum as they head into the final stretch of the season. With their defensive solidity and clutch playmaking, they look poised to be a formidable opponent in postseason play.
