Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated with 2-1 Defeat of Santa Rosa

Sierra College Women's Soccer continues the longest win streak in the state with Tuesdays 2-1 defeat of Santa Rosa Junior College in a Big 8 conference match. Tied 1-1 at the half, it was a close battle, but Sierra scored in the 72nd minute which would end up being the game winner against the Bear Cubs.

Sierra drew first blood, with a Samantha Craig goal in the 14th minute, assisted by Christina Kanellou. Santa Rosa answered back, however, with Eden Brooker scoring in the 26th minute off an assist by Kitana Gonzalez. Headed into the half, it was all tied up at one apiece.

Sierra would shoot 5 times in the second, one finding the back of the net when Christina Kanellou headed the ball in off an assist from Maddy Morrison. With Sierra leading 2-1 with 28 minutes left, Santa Rosa was unable to find a way past the Wolverine defense despite shooting three times, once wide and twice saved by Sierra's keeper Jordan Higgins. Sierra took home the 2-1 victory, handing Santa Rosa their first conference loss of 2018, and just their second loss on the season overall.

Sierra, the lone undefeated team in the north and one of just three in California, leads the state in goals scored with 63, assists with 54 and shots with 212. Sierra, now 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big 8, have outscored their 2018 opponents 63-7 and average 6.3 goals per game.
