Bear Cub Baseball sweeps Modesto in Late Season Series

Coming off a 3-3 record in the last two series, 1-2 vs. Cosumnes River and 2-1 vs. American River, the Bear Cubs swept Modesto Junior College. The three wins against Modesto came from outstanding pitching, allowing only 2 runs all series! Tuesday's 5-1 win was dominated by Alec Rennard and his pitching performance. Through 7 innings Rennard gave up 3 hits, 0 runs with 8 K's, and 1 walk. Vijay Patel got the 1.2 inning save to close out the pitching performance. Jackson Leslie went 3-3 with a 3B, 2B, and a RBI. Kyle Mitchell continued with pitching dominance on Thursday at Modesto, going 7 innings, 4 hits and 1 run with 5 K's. However, the Bear Cub's bats came alive with 7 runs on 11 hits. Mitchell West went 2-5 with 2 RBI's with a 3B, and Bryce Nagata went 1-5 with 2 RBI's and a 2B leading the top of the batting order. Weston Bryan went 2-4 with 2 RBI's and a 3B, and Leslie continued to hit going 2-4 with a RBI and another 2B. The final game of the series, 4-0 win, was a shutdown performance with an emergency start by Matt Estes (pictured) on the mound. Estes went 6 innings giving up 4 hits. Patel picked up his second save of the series with a 3 inning no hits and 2 K's performance. Offense was led by Jake Hedrick going 2-4 with a RBI double. Going into the final series of the regular season against Sierra College, the Bear Cubs stand at 12-6 in Big 8 play and 23-10 overall.
