Baseball sweeps Butte College, Advances to Super Regionals

The Bear Cubs advance to Super Regionals with a sweep over Butte College. SRJC won the first 2 games of the best-of-three series. Alec Rennard controlled Butte's offense in Friday's 8-0 victory. Alec went 8 innings only allowing 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. Offensively, Mitchell West went 2-4 with a run and 3 RBI's. Bryce Nagata went 3-4 with a run, and Weston Bryan went 2-5 with 3 RBI's and a triple. Game 2 on Saturday morning, was again dominated with quality pitching and defense. Garrett Hill went complete game giving up one run in the 9th, with 4 strikeouts. In the 3rd inning, Bear Cub's offense was sparked with a Jake Hedrick (4-5, 1 Run) single and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Haug. Then, with 2 outs, Mitchell West drove in Jake Scheiner and Weston Bryan with a double to left field. Again in the 9th inning, since Santa Rosa was the visiting team for Game 2 of the series, Mitchell West (center of picture) delivered another 2 out 2 RBI double to left field, capping West's 2-5 4 RBI day. Bryce Nagata (center of picture #6) had 2 hits as well for the Bear Cubs on Saturday.

Santa Rosa JC (28-10) play #5 seed San Mateo (27-11) in another best-of-three series starting Friday May 8th. Friday's game time is 2pm, while Saturday's game time is 1pm, and Sunday (if necessary) is scheduled for 12pm. San Mateo is coming off their own sweep over Merced College in the first round of playoffs. Look forward to another good series.
