Men's Basketball Overview

2013-2014 Season Highlights

  • 2013-2014 CCCAA State Champions
  • Big 8 Conference Champions
  • Kris Kringle Tournament Champions

After winning the Big 8 Conference Title, and going undefeated in the regional playoffs (including a fourth round upset at Fresno City College), SRJC Men's Basketball team advanced to the CCCAA Final Four for the first time as the north's no. 1 seed. The Cubs opened the State Tournament by beating the south's no. 2 seed Chaffey College 49-47, Which put them in the CCCAA title game with a chance to win their first ever Men's Basketball State Championship. In the championship game, SRJC faced the south's no. 1 seed San Bernardino Valley. Although the Cubs got off to a slow start and went into halftime trailing 29-32, they proved that they were the best shooting team in the state, eventually overtaking San Bernardino winning the game 73-67. The 2013-2014 SRJC team now holds the school's first ever State Championship in men's basketball.

2014-2015 Team Preview

A lot is unknown about the 2014-2015 Men's Basketball team. SRJC was hit hard by graduation and Davone Oliver and Corey Hammel are the only two returners who saw major minutes on last season's State Championship team. Also returning after taking a year off to recover from surgery, is Jajuan who played a large role two years ago. Santa Rosa will also have a host of freshmen and transfers that will fill out their roster. How quickly the newcomers gel with the veterans will determine how successful this team will become. As always, the Cubs will be challenged early and often this season by playing one of the most challenging schedules in the state.

Program History

Santa Rosa Junior College is coming off of one of their best runs in the program's history. The Cubs are the only team in the state to have advanced to the elite 8 each of the past four seasons, and the Bear Cubs are coming off three consecutive Big 8 Conference Championships. SRJC capped of their amazing run by winning the CCCAA State Title this past season. In addition to success on the court, Santa Rosa has a long history of players graduation and moving on to play at four year institutions.
