Men's Track: Incomplete Men's Team Take 3rd Place at De Anza Open

The SRJC men traveled to De Anza to compete in their first meet of the season. With the distance runners taking the week off and the decathletes already competing earlier in the week, the Bear Cubs roster was down to half the normal size for the opening meet in Cupertino. Unaffected by the lack of bodies, the SRJC men were able to capture third place scoring 117.5 points, just 4.5 points behind hosts De Anza. Double event winner in the 100 and the 200, freshman Christian Corbin, had a great start to his season by running 10.80 in the 100 and 21.80 in the 200. Also a part of the 4x400 and 4x100 relay, Corbin is now ranked 5th in the 100 and 8th in the 200 in the state. Also having a great meet was sophomore Nick Diaz. After nearly reaching the NorCal qualifying mark in the hammer with a throw of 45.15m (148'), Diaz stepped onto the runway and launched a 54.27m (178') Javelin throw to capture the State A standard, 2nd place at the meet and a ranking of 9th in the state. During the course of the meet there were over 20 personal records set and a handful of NorCal Qualifying Marks.

The Bear Cubs will travel with a full squad to compete against the top teams in Northern California at the Beaver Relays at American River College Next Saturday.
