This is Coach Corey Nelson’s 2nd season with the SRJC Track & Field program. Coach Nelson is also on the coaching staff for the SRJC Football team. Born in Baton Rouge Louisiana, Coach Nelson competed in Track and Field at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College where he competed in Both Track and Field and Football. After receiving his AA in Liberal Art, Cory transferred to Boise State University where he continued to compete in Football and Track and Field. Coach Nelson completed his Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Sociology.
Coach Nelson is the current Redwood Empire Boys All Time 400m #1, Boys All Time 200m (Best fully automatic times) #1 and holds the CIF North Bay League meet record 400m/200m, CIF North Coast Section meet record 400m/200m and CIF Meet of Champions meet record 400m.
Coach Nelson had a robust career at Santa Rosa Junior College. He was named 2-time CCCAA All State, and twice qualified for the CCCAA State Championships in the 400m and 200m. Coach Nelson is the Santa Rosa Junior College current record in the 400m and was the first SRJC student-athlete to receive a double scholarship transfer to Boise State University.
At Boise State, Coach Nelson was a 2-time All-American competing the 400 and the 200m. He is the current Boise State school record holder in the 400m.
After College, Coach Nelson continued his athletic career by competing as a professional sprinter for NIKE where he received a Worlds Indoor Gold medal for the 4x400 relay, was a National Indoor Silver medalist in the 400m, National Indoor Bronze medalist in the 200m and would qualify for 2 Olympic Trials. As a Masters Sprinter, Coach Nelson Holds the Arizona State Record in the 400m, is a 2-time National Gold medalist in the 200m, 3-time National Silver Medalist in the 400m among a number of accomplishments. Coach Nelson is also a USATF/NCAA/CCCAA Certified Official.
