On the last Friday of 2017, the Bear Cubs (4-7, 0-1) played this season's first Big 8 home game as hosts to the newest conference member, the Falcons of Folsom Lake College (3-7, 0-1). Destiny Grayer scored the first basket of the contest after two minutes of play. The Falcons added one point 40 seconds later on a free throw. The Bear Cubs made three shots in a row—a field goal by Angel Bernardi and two 3-pointers by Kylie Oden—prompting a Folsom Lake timeout with 6:05 on the clock and the Bear Cubs ahead 10-1. Alma Perez swished a deep 3-pointer at the 4:20 mark for their first basket. The Bear Cubs next sank three 3-pointers—one each by Angel Bernardi, Kylie Oden, and Britta Irvine—for a 19-5 lead with 1:40 left. In the remaining time Perez scored a field goal and another 3-pointer, while Jenny Eggers and Gaby Roldan each added a field goal to make the score at the end of the period 23-10.

The Falcons started the second quarter with a 10-0 run, before the Bear Cubs finally recovered their shooting touch, making their next seven shots in a row to bring the score to 40-26 with 3:38 on the clock. The Falcons added one more field goal while Jenny Eggers and Maddie Strom each scored from the post and Cammie Barsuglia made two out of three free throws for a halftime score of 46-28.

Destiny Grayer started the scoring in the third quarter with a 3-pointer. The Falcons made one of two free throws. Then the Bear Cubs made five of their next six shots, including two field goals by Jenny Eggers and one 3-pointer by Kylie Oden to stretch their margin to 60-36 midway through the period. During the rest of the quarter the Bear Cubs made just two out of 10 shots and two out of four free throws, while the Falcons added a 3-pointer, a field goal, and three out of six free throws for a score of 66-44.

The Falcons scored the first five points of the fourth quarter on a 3-pointer and a field goal. Kylie Oden and Britta Irvine sank back to back field goals. After a single missed shot, the Bear Cubs went on a 7-0 run, which included two baskets by Jenny Eggers, the second one part of a 3-point play, for a 77-49 lead at the midpoint of the period. Following a Falcon field goal, DJ Hayes sank a driving over the shoulder shot. Cammie Barsuglia banked in a long shot from the right side with 2:28 left. Mireya Lopez made a short shot and completed the Bear Cubs' scoring with two free throws. The Falcons finished with a field goal and two 3-pointers to make the final score 85-60.

The Bear Cubs, for a change, shot well in both halves: 18 of 33 (55%) in the first and 16 of 30 (53%) in the second. For the first time this season all of the Bear Cubs scored and all of them had at least one assist.

Three of the Bear Cubs' starters each scored 17 points. Jenny Eggers made 8 out of 12 field goal attempts and her only free throw. Angel Bernardi sank 3 out of 4 3-pointers and 4 out of 6 2-pointers. Kylie Oden, who twisted her ankle two weeks ago and is nearly back to full-strength, made 5 out of 8 3-point shots and one field goal.
