In the second round loser's bracket game of the CCSF Tournament, the Bear Cubs (4-7) faced the Wildcats of West Los Angeles College (2-6). The Bear Cubs won the tipoff and Kierra Johnson soon drew a shooting foul. She made the first free throw but not the second. Twenty-three seconds later the Wildcats sank a 3-pointer and then one free throw on the following possession. During the next three minutes Kierra Johnson made two short shots, Trinity Hawkins one free throw, and Lani Lincoln a 3-pointer for a 9-7 lead. After two misses, the Bear Cubs made five shots in a row--Trinity Hawkins' putback and two from within three feet, and Lani Lincoln's 5-foot floater and 3-pointer--to take a 20-12 lead with 1:10 on the clock. The Wildcats added one free throw and one field goal to end the quarter behind 15-20.
The Wildcats drew a shooting foul on their first turn on offense in the second quarter and made both free throws. Nearly one minute later, Kierra Johnson caught the pass at the high post and made the shot from the free throw area. Amaya Macandog's 3-point play at the 7:52 mark made the lead 25-17. Johnson made five shots in a row, the fifth one a putback, to stretch the lead to 35-21 with 4:30 on the clock. Hanna Morris' putback and two free throws followed by Kassi Agapoff's 3-pointer with 1:08 left made the margin 42-25. The Wildcats hit another 3-pointer to make their deficit 29-42 going into halftime.
The Wildcats applied a full-court trapping defense to start the third quarter and made it pay off by causing the Bear Cubs to turn the ball over and take quick shots, as they scored 9 unanswered points. Kassi Agapoff scored the Bear Cubs' first point on one free throw at the 5:49 mark. After a Wildcat miss, the Bear Cubs pushed the ball and Lizbeth Zavala scored the fast break layup. The Wildcats went on a 7-0 run before Amaya Macandog and Trinity Hawkins both made two free throws each for a 49-45 lead with 3:30 on the clock. The Wildcats then drained a 3-pointer. Hawkins banked in a jump shot and Macandog sank two more free throws to get to 53-48 with 50 seconds left. The Wildcats added two more points on a pair of free throws to end the quarter behind 50-53.
The Bear Cubs scored the first five points of the fourth quarter on Lizbeth Zavala's 3-pointer on an inbounds play and Kierra Johnson's drive after breaking the full-court pressure. The Wildcats made two free throws. With 7:21 on the clock, Amaya Macandog cut across the baseline, caught the pass from Johnson, and made the semi-reverse layup to get to 60-52. The Wildcats countered with a 3-pointer and a wide-open shot near the basket. Lani Lincoln converted a 3-point play on a baseline drive. The Wildcats then swished a 3-pointer with 4:42 left to close to 60-63. The Bear Cubs turned the ball over and missed shots before Kierra Johnson scored the Bear Cubs' final field goal on a post move with 2:12 remaining for a 65-60 margin. The Wildcats sank a long field goal from near the baseline 22 seconds later. Lincoln drew a shooting foul with 1:18 on the clock and made both free throws. Fourteen seconds later the Wildcats drew a shooting foul and sank both free throws. Lincoln was intentionally fouled with 24 seconds to go and made only the first free throw. After a Wildcat miss, Lincoln grabbed the rebound and was immediately fouled. She made both free throws for a 70-64 lead with 11 seconds left. The Wildcats called their final timeout and advanced the ball to their frontcourt sideline. They inbounded and swished a shot from beyond the arc two seconds later. The Bear Cubs called their last timeout and also advanced the ball to their frontcourt sideline. Johnson caught the inbounds pass and was fouled right away. She made the first free throw but not the second. The Wildcats rebounded and got a shot off that didn't fall in, leaving the Bear Cubs with a 71-67 win.
During the third quarter the Bear Cubs committed 11 turnovers, so they only attempted 8 shots, of which they only made two. Meanwhile the Wildcats made six shots, three from beyond the arc. The Wildcats finished with 10 3-pointers and the Bear Cubs only 4. For the entire game the Bear Cubs turned the ball over 21 times and the Wildcats only 8.
Kierra Johnson registered her seventh double-double with a season-high 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Trinity Hawkins had her sixth double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Lani Lincoln made two 3-pointers and finished with 16 points. Amaya Macandog made all five of her free throws and scored a season-high 9 points. Lizbeth Zavala added 5 points, and Kassi Agapoff and Hanna Morris 4 each. Kassi Agapoff passed for 4 assists.
