The Bear Cubs opened their 2025-26 season on the road as the 11:00 am contest of the San Joaquin Delta Jocelyn Mancebo Classic 8-team tournament against the Roadrunners of Butte College. The Bear Cubs won the tipoff and Jordan Washington soon drew a shooting foul. She sank both free throws. During their next possession, Abby Tacla passed to Kaia Eubanks open next to the basket for a 4-0 lead. The Roadrunners got on the scoreboard with one of two free throws and a field goal before Jordan Washington scored the Bear Cubs' next six points on a putback, a pair of free throws, and a 12-footer. Maddux Wilson put in a basket after Jordan Washington's putback. The Bear Cubs' 10-5 lead was cut down to just two points when Alexa Contreras drained a 3-pointer with 6:05 on the clock. The Bear Cubs responded with a 9-0 run on Elle Picard's 3-pointer, Washington's spin move, Hailey Webb's drive, and Tacla's 1-footer off of Webb's assist with three minutes remaining. The Roadrunners added a field goal with 1:30 left, and Jordan Washington made one of two free throws to complete the scoring with the Bear Cubs ahead 20-10.
The Roadrunners started the second quarter with the ball and made a field goal. The Bear Cubs then added two points on Kaia Eubanks' 1-footer off the assist from Jordan Washington. The Roadrunners countered with a 3-point play by Jazlyn Alcantar. Eubanks again banked in a 1-footer, this time thanks to Hailey Webb's assist pass. Alcantar's 3-pointer cut their deficit to 18-24 at the 8:04 mark. The Bear Cubs outscored their opponents 13-6 during the remainder of the period on Elle Picard's 1-footer off of Eubanks' pass from the top, one free throw by Jordan Washington, her 2-footer off of Picard's pass, Abby Tacla's putback, one free throw by Madyson Carson, and Picard's long bank shot from way beyond the arc as the buzzer sounded, leaving the Bear Cubs in front 37-24.
The Bear Cubs made the first four points of the third quarter on Jordan Washington's 2-footer after catching Kaia Eubanks' pass, and Eubanks' drive. Jazlyn Alcantar swished a 3-pointer, and then Abby Tacla banked in a layup for a 43-27 lead. Alcantar drained another 3-pointer, and Washington made two more free throws at the 6:16 mark. Maddux Wilson's basket was followed by Shasta Vlasak's single free throw, making the lead 46-32 with 4:38 on the clock. The Roadrunners' defense forced the Bear Cubs to continually turn the ball over and miss the rest of their shots. On offense the Butte squad scored six field goals to close the gap to just two points. By the end of the quarter the Bear Cubs were holding a slim 46-44 lead.
The Bear Cubs made their first three shots of the fourth quarter—Kaia Eubanks's 1-footer off of Shasta Vlasak's assist, Elle Picard's 3-pointer after catching Jordan Washington's pass, and Abby Tacla's 3-point play on a 3-footer—by the 7:48 mark. Meanwhile Maddux Wilson drained two 3-pointers in a row during the first minute. Jazlyn Alcanter's 3-pointer with 6:13 on the clock got the Roadrunners within a point at 53-54. The Bear Cubs tallied six unanswered points on four free throws by Eubanks and Picard's drive to widen their lead to 60-53 with 2:22 left. Brook Marr scored inside, and then Sydney Martin banked a 1-footer off of Jordan Washington's pass. Alcantar swished another 3-pointer with 1:10 remaining. Sydney Martin's putback with 43 seconds to go made the Bear Cubs' advantage 64-58. Kaidanca Kaiser's 3-pointer nine seconds later got the Roadrunners to 61-64. Washington was fouled after receiving the inbounds pass and sank both free throws. With 18 seconds left the Roadrunners missed their next shot. Tacla grabbed the rebound and was immediately fouled. She made both free throws with eight seconds to go for a 68-61 margin. The Roadrunners called a timeout and advanced the ball. Kaiser scored within three seconds. Eubanks caught the inbounds pass and was fouled. She made one free throw to complete the scoring in the Bear Cubs' 69-63 win.
The Bear Cubs literally won the game at the free throw line. They were able to draw 26 fouls and make 20 out of 27 free throws (74%). Defensively the Bear Cubs only committed eight fouls, so the Roadrunners only shot three free throws, making two of them. Two Roadrunners scored in double figures—Jazlyn Alcantar with a game-high 24 points and Maddux Wilson with 13.
Jordan Washington, who made 10 out of 12 free throws, recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kaia Eubanks also put together a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Two other Bear Cubs reached double figures: Elle Picard with 13 and Abby Tacla with 11. Sydney Martin added 4 points and 6 rebounds, Shasta Vlasak 3 points and 5 rebounds, Hailey Webb 2 points, and Madyson Carson 1. Jordan Washington led in assists with 4 and blocked 3 shots.
