The Bear Cubs welcomed three teams to their 2-day SRJC Crossover Tournament. San Joaquin Delta (3-0) defeated City College of San Francisco (2-0) in the opening contest, and the Bear Cubs (3-1) were victorious over the Knights of Shasta College (2-3) in game #2.
The Bear Cubs scored six points on their first two possessions—Jordan Washington's 3-point play on a drive and Caitlin Baldwin's 3-pointer. Taylor Ford drew a shooting foul at the 8:19 mark and made both free throws. The Bear Cubs went on a 14-0 run by making six out of seven shots—Baldwin's 3-pointer, Washington's 1-footer off of Elle Picard's assist, Hailey Webb's 3-pointer, Kaia Eubanks' drive, Sydney Martin's 10-footer, and Washington's 2-footer off of Webb's pass—for a 20-2 lead with 3:10 on the clock. Ford made one free throw with 1:23 left to complete the scoring in the quarter, with the Bear Cubs in front 20-3.
The Knights put in four points on Taylor Ford's putback and Mallorie Beauchamp's basket before the Bear Cubs scored 19 unanswered points on eight out of nine shots—Caitlin Baldwin' 3-pointer, Sydney Martin's drive, Kaia Eubanks' 1-footer off of Abby Tacla's crosscourt pass from the wing, Jordan Washington's cut and assist from Eubanks, Shasta Vlasak's fast break layup after catching Washington's lead pass, Eubanks' cut and pass from Washington, and Washington's putback—to make their advantage 39-7 with 2:59 on the clock. The Bear Cubs missed their final six shots while Josie Carrick made two field goals for the Knights, bringing the halftime score to 39-11.
The Knights again scored first in the third quarter on two free throws by Riley Sedlak and a 3-pointer by Jacalyn Gorbet. Jordan Washington dropped in a 5-footer after cutting into the key and catching Kaia Eubanks' assist. After Sedlak banked in a layup, Jordan Washington was successful on a drive and Caitlin Baldwin drained another 3-pointer. Taylor Ford's basket was followed by Washington' drive from just below the free throw line that finished with a spin and release from three feet to the left of the hoop at the 5:23 mark for a 48-20 lead. During the remainder of the period, the Bear Cubs only added Abby Tacla's 1-footer after a spin move and Eubanks' 4-footer from in front of the hoop on a baseline inbounds pass from Tacla. The Knights tallied eight points on six out of eight free throws and a field goal by Alana Hart, to close the gap to 28-52.
Madyson Carson started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 16-footer. Jordan Washington banked in a putback and Natalie Martinez made both of her free throws for the Knights at the 8:10 mark. The Bear Cubs put together a 9-0 run on Washington's 2-footer on a baseline inbounds lob from Elle Picard, her putback of her own missed free throw from the middle of the key, another putback, and Bennett Gaylord's drive into the key and release from eight feet out just before the shot clock expired with 5:19 on the clock. Riley Sedlak sank a 3-pointer seventeen seconds later. The Bear Cubs made two more baskets—Amanda Hart's 2-footer off of Anabel Arcilla's pass into the low post, and Sydney Martin's 2-footer after a reverse spin with 1:52 left. Mallorie Beauchamp scored the final basket with 35 seconds remaining, making the final score 69-35.
The Bear Cubs' defense forced the Knights to commit 19 turnovers and only make 10 out of 43 shots (23%). The Knights did make 13 out of 18 free throws (72%). The Bear Cubs made 25 out of 38 (66%) 2-point shots but only 5 out of 28 (18%) from beyond the arc. They only attempted 7 free throws, making 4 of them (57%). Taylor Ford was the top scorer for the Knights with 11 points, including 7 out of 10 from the free throw line.
Jordan Washington led the Bear Cubs with her fourth double-double comprised of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Caitlin Baldwin scored a season-high 12 points on 4 out of 7 3-pointers. Kaia Eubanks added 8 points, Sydney Martin 6, Abby Tacla and Shasta Vlasak 4 each, Hailey Webb 3, Madyson Carson, Bennett Gaylord, and Amanda Hart 2 each. Madyson Carson was second in rebounding with 5. Elle Picard and Abby Tacla each passed for 4 assists. Shasta Vlasak made 4 steals.
