Freshman midfielder, Natalia Picano, scored two second half goals to tie undefeated Modesto Junior College (10-0-1, 3-0-1). Modesto came out tough, scoring early in the first half on a first time finish off a cross. Modesto continued to pressure the Bear Cubs, earning multiple chances, with 3 shots hitting off the crossbar. Freshman goalkeeper, Morgan Jernigan, made several key saves in the first half. The Bear Cubs were limited to two shots in the first half against a tough Modesto defense. The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for the Pirates.

The second half would prove to be a thriller. The Pirates continued their offensive attack. After a brilliant first save from Jernigan, a Pirate striker followed up the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net in the 50th minute, increasing their lead to 2-0. Shortly after in the 55th minute, Picano placed a direct kick from nearly 60 yards out over the Modesto goalkeeper and into the net, making it 2-1. Modesto continued to fire on the Bear Cubs, hitting the post 3 more times in the second half. The Bear Cubs stayed focused and pressed forward looking for counter attack opportunities. In the 69th minute, Picano stripped the ball from a Modesto defender at the top of the penalty area and fired the ball past the Pirate goalkeeper, tying the game 2-2 with 20 minutes left to play. Modesto created several more chances inside the 6-yard box. Santa Rosa's, Julia Lambert, had a breakaway opportunity with just minutes to play.

After a hard fought game between both teams, the game ended in a tie. This is the Bear Cubs and Pirates first tie in their seasons. The Bear Cubs face American River on Tuesday at 3:30pm at home.
