Women's Swimming: Sargis Leads Bear Cubs to a 2nd Place Finish at the Cuesta Meet

Taylor Sargis

SRJC Women's Swim & Dive made a statement at the Cuesta College Invitational meet last weekend in San Luis Obispo.  The Cubs finished 2nd overall to conference rival Sierra College claiming five individual event titles as well as winning the 400 Medley relay at the conclusion of the meet.

Freshman, Taylor Sargis had an exceptional meet pulling the "hat trick" winning all three of her events with lifetime best times in the 200 IM, 100 Fly, and 100 Breast.  Sargis' times in both the 100 Breast 1:06.75 and the 200 IM 2:11.76, currently rank no. 1 in the state this season.

Sophomore co-captain Jasmine Alger won the 200 Fly in a state qualifying time of 2:13.86 and finished 6th overall in the 100 Fly as well.  Freshman Hailey Vance won the 100 Back with a time of 1:00.13, took a close 2nd in the 200 back, and 3rd in the 50 Free.

Other break out performances came from: co-captain Lucia Mora who took 2nd in both the 100 and 200 Breast (narrowly missing the school record in the 200) as well as 7th overall in the 200 Free; freshman distance freestyler, Mary Lane, who had three top 8 finishes in the 1650, 500, and 200; and freshman Annika Erickson who took scored 5th overall in the 100 Free, 100 Fly, and the 50 Free.

Returning All American diver, Elana Candiotti, finished 4th on the 1M board amd 5th on the 3M board in the statewide meet.

The Bear Cubs look to build off their momentum at the Cuesta Meet as they head into the Big 8 Conference Invite this weekend at Delta College in Stockton. Competition begins at 11am.
