Chelsea Hennan Named 2017 WWPA Women's Coach Of The Year

Official WWPA Release

ROHNERT PARK --
Sonoma State University interim head coach Chelsea Hennan has been selected as the 2017 Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Women's Coach of the Year, it was voted upon by the league's coaches and announced by the WWPA on Tuesday.

Hennan guided the Seawolves to a second-place finish in the WWPA Women's Championship back in April thanks to victories over Gannon and Cal State East Bay in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, to reach the conference finals for the first time in SSU's history.  It was there, however, that Sonoma State lost to nationally-ranked UC San Diego, but finishing second in the tournament was the best finish for the Seawolves in their 14-year history.

Overall, Sonoma ended the season with an 11-19 record under Hennan, who had spent the previous nine seasons as the Seawolves' assistant coach.  She also played for SSU back in 2005-06 and was the program's first All-American.  With that, Hennan was inducted into the SSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2015.

This is the first WWPA Women's Coach of the Year honor for a coach from Sonoma State since it joined the conference for its inaugural season in 2004.
